Daniel Johnson is a mixed-media artist currently based in North Carolina. He earned his Master of Fine Arts at Southwest University of Visual Arts in Tucson, Arizona. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, he attended College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Art. Mr. Johnson's art has been exhibited throughout the United States, most notably at the 2015 Arizona Biennial, curated by Irene Hoffman. Additionally, he was featured in Expose Art Magazine's 2016 Next Generation of Artists competition and in Studio Visit Magazine, Volumes 29, and 36. Mr. Johnson has exhibited his work at the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art Museum in Gimpo, South Korea. He has also been selected for an artist residency at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. Most recently, he was selected as a semifinalist for the 12th Edition of the Laguna Art Prize in Venice, Italy. Through figural abstraction, his expanded studio practice explores conceptions of consciousness, semiotics, interconnectivity, longing, mortality, and becoming in the ecology of culture. He is a free spirit and nomad, chasing the horizon.
